How it works

One day, three lenses.

The same stories, every morning, for everyone. Each tab is a different way of seeing them.

The Clear tab: today's stories
A story: what happened, with statuses

1 · Clear

What happened.

The stories that mattered today, as many as the day calls for, each traced to the public record: bills, votes, court rulings, agency notices.

  • Every claim carries a citation.
  • Plain statuses: documented, reported by multiple outlets, one side's claim, unknown. Never "true" or "false".
  • About two minutes to read.
The fight, mapped: narratives from the left and right, sized by views
What people actually saw: views, and the most-viewed post

2 · Noise

How it's being sold.

See the noise around each story without living in it.

  • What people actually saw: how many views, and how few were about what actually happened.
  • The fight, mapped: the narratives each side pushed, sized by reach. Tap one for what the record shows.
  • The moment everyone saw, and what the clip left out.
  • What they're really fighting about: what facts can settle, and what's yours to decide.
Today's trick: one technique, one example from each side

Every morning · Today's trick

Learn one move a day.

One persuasion technique that showed up in today's news, with one example from the left and one from the right. The clipped quote. The handpicked number. The scary label. A month in, you'll spot the moves yourself.

Key concepts behind a story
The stated case: why the government says it's doing it

3 · Learn

How it works.

The system behind each story, so you understand it instead of just reacting to it.

  • Key concepts you need to follow the story.
  • The stated case: the reasons the government gives in its own documents. What they say, not a judgment of it.
  • How we got here and what it means for you, each with sources.

Why I built Clear

I don't think any of us are thinking clearly right now. I include myself. Algorithms build a box around each of us, and a two-party system keeps sorting every question onto one of two teams. Clear is my small first step out of the box: get my information through a lens that is as clear and factual as possible, and learn to spot how it gets bent.
